Sin

Please read and meditate on the following information.  This topic is very important.
All passages from this document have been taken from the New International Version Bible.

  Romans 3:23

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

  1 John 1:8

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

A) Everyone has sinned.  We all need forgiveness.
B) We deceive ourselves if we think differently.

1 John 3:4-6

4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

A) Sin is breaking the Law of God.
 B) We need to continue to deal with the sin in our lives.

Isaiah 59:1-2

Sin, Confession and Redemption
1 Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.  2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

Romans 6:23 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A) The result of sin is separation from God.
B) The payment for sin is death or you can accept eternal life through Jesus.

Galatians 5:19-26

19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.  22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Mark 7:21-23 21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' "

Matthew 5:27-28

Adultery
27 "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Romans 13:13-14  13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

A) These are examples of sins we all need to avoid.
B) Those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
C) Sin comes from your heart (within you) and makes you unclean.
D) Let us not think of ways to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

2 Timothy 3:1-5

Godlessness in the Last Days
1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

A) Going to church, but not dealing with sin in your life is an example of having a
form of godliness but denying its power.
B) Those who are trying to do right, need to stay away from these types of people.
C) Note: Hypocrites are one of the excuses the non-Christian makes for their reason
for not becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Romans 7:14-25

14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.  21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God's law; 23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

A) Are you a slave to SIN?
B) Only Jesus Christ can rescue you.

James 1:13-16

13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.  16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers

A) God does not tempt anyone.
B) We are tempted by our own evil desires.
C) Once you act on your evil desires; this is the point where sin is born; and sin               gives birth to death.

GOD’S COMPLETE PLAN OF SALVATION:

1)  Hear the Word: Romans 10:17 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

2)  Believe the Gospel:  Acts 8: 37                                                                                37 Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." The eunuch answered, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."

3)  Repent of your Sins: Luke 13: 3 - 5 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."

4) Confess Christ as Lord:  Romans 10: 9 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved

5) Be Baptized (Immersed In Water):  Acts 2: 38  38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 22:16 16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.'
