The Authority of the Word

Please read and meditate on the following information.  This topic is very important.  All passages from this document have been taken from the New International Version Bible.

2 Timothy 3:14-17

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

A) The scriptures make us wise for salvation.  The bible will tell you
      exactly how to be saved.
B) The scriptures are inspired by God (God-breathed).  They come from
      God not man.
C) They are useful and make us complete for every good work.

2 Peter 1:19-21

19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

A) The scriptures are inspired by God through his Holy Spirit.
B) These are not the words of MAN.

Matthew 15:1-9

Clean and Unclean
1 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2 "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands before they eat!"  3 Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.' 5 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,' 6 he is not to 'honor his father' with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:  8 " 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.  9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'

A) You nullify the word of God by following the teachings of man.
B) Your heart is far from God if you don’t obey God’s word.
C) This type of worship is vain (useless).

Galatians 1:6-9

No Other Gospel
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

A) If you believe another gospel it can cost you your salvation.
B) Eternal condemnation for any change in the message.

 John 12:47-50

47 "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. 49 For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."

A) Jesus came to save the world; His word will judge us.
B) Jesus is careful not to change the message from the Father, how              careful do we need to be?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matthew 7:21-23

21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

A) Being religious does not guarantee salvation.
B) Must do God’s will.

Romans 10:17

17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

A) Faith comes from hearing the word.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Acts 17:11

11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

A) Bereans eagerly examined the Word every day to make sure
what Paul said was true.  How much more you need to examine
the scriptures to make sure your pastor is telling the truth?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hebrews 4:12-13

12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

A) You cannot fool God. He knows your heart.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Questions you must ask yourself.
1) Are you going to use the Bible as your standard of truth?
2) Are you ready to do what the Bible says?
3) Are you willing to read and study the Bible daily?

GOD’S COMPLETE PLAN OF SALVATION:

1)  Hear the Word: Romans 10:17     17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

2)  Believe the Gospel:  Acts 8: 37                                                                             37 Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." The
eunuch answered, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."

3)  Repent of your Sins: Luke 13: 3 - 5
3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4 Or
those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you
think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell
you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."

4) Confess Christ as Lord:  Romans 10:    9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved

5) Be Baptized (Immersed In Water): Acts 2: 38    38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 22:16 16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.'

ENOCH 94: 1 - 4

1. And now I say to you, my children, love righteousness and walk in it;
For the paths of righteousness are worthy of acceptance, But the paths of unrighteousness will quickly be destroyed and vanish.

2. And to certain men of a generation shall the paths of violence and of death be revealed, And they shall hold themselves afar from them, And shall not follow them.

3. And now I say to you, the righteous: do not walk in the wicked path, or in wrong doing, or in the paths of death, and do not draw near to them, or you may be destroyed.

4. But seek and choose for yourselves, righteousness, and a life that is pleasing and walk in the paths of peace so that you may live and prosper.
